Sheriff Coot O'Dougal
At a Glance
Description
The local sheriff. Narcoleptic — fell asleep mid-meeting during a land-sale dispute between the Cranfields and (presumably) the Durgins.
Notes
- His narcolepsy may limit his usefulness as a law enforcement contact
- Does his sheriff work alone and finds this overwhelming
- Has an enormous key ring; he is very slow sorting through it — the gang had several sidebars and discussions during the wait in Session 5
- Ms March has previously stolen and replaced some of the keys on his key ring
- Was successfully gaslighted by Ms March into believing Earl had not committed a crime and should be released — O'Dougal then handed his key ring to the prisoner
- Had appointed a successor to take over in the event of his death (revealed Session 8): the acting sheriff of Hole is now Mr Wrigglesworth, a goat
Session Appearances
| Session | What Happened |
|---|---|
| Session 1 | Referenced — fell asleep during the Cranfield land-sale meeting |
| Session 5 | Had been pacing outside the Randy Saloon waiting for Ms March with news of a prisoner; escorted the gang to the sheriff's tent; gaslighted by Ms March into releasing Earl; handed his key ring to his prisoner; sent across the street to the hotel rocking chair and fell asleep immediately |
| Session 7 | Found snoozing in the sheriff's tent by Jed Hatchett — shot in the head; the empty cage was what triggered it. Dead. |
