Joseph Cranfield
Also referred to as Thomas (possibly a player name inconsistency)
At a Glance
| Role | Homesteader, husband, father |
| Status | Alive |
| First Seen | Session 1 |
| Affiliation | Cranfield family |
Description
A man in his thirties with a full beard. Moved his family to Hole about a month before Session 1, building a homestead North of town. Was asleep in a chair when the session opened. Got into a brawl at The Randy Saloon with the Durgin family over an alleged pig-killing.
Notes
- His family has been terrorised by the Durgins since they arrived — the Durgins believe the Cranfields killed one of their pigs
- Grateful to the party after Cuthbert and Dr Webb intervened in the saloon brawl
- The party promised to visit his homestead the next morning to investigate
- In Session 2: came to the Durgin homestead armed, thinking the gang was in trouble — and stepped into a beartrap at the front of the property. Freed by Ms March. Leg fully healed by Dr Webb. Fought inside the house during the howler attack.
- Heard disturbances outside his property at different times throughout the night — consistent with howler activity
- Was briefly lured outside by a howler mimicking his baby daughter Lilybelle crying
Unresolved
The opening scene — Cathy hearing the baby crying outside, then finding Lilybelle safely in Joseph's arms — may be supernatural. Either a dream or something else.
